HOME SCHOOL RULES AND GUIDELINES - ARKANSAS
2010 - 2011
I am posting the information for homeschooling & membership requirements now so everyone will have time to take care of the requirements necessary to be an NHSRA Wrangler Division member. Below is the wording exactly as it will appear in the rule book for next year. I realize that the state of Arkansas may not have any specific requirements for homeschooling, but if you sign the membership form, you are agreeing to abide by the rules of the NHSRA as they are stated below. Again, this is a ruling from Nationals and this is what our association is required to abide by. Let me know if you have any questions. However; there will be no exceptions to this rule, so please take the time to get this taken care of before our rodeo season next year. This ruling is not being enforced to keep any student from participating in rodeo, only to make sure ALL contestants are meeting the same requirements.
Students in the Wrangler Division must be in good standing; not ruled undesirable for misconduct at school. Students must be under 16 at the first of the National High School Rodeo year (Aug. 1), and are or have been enrolled in the 6th, 7th, or 8th grade the year just preceding the Wrangler Junior High Finals Rodeo the contestant is entering as long as they (minimum requirements) have made passing grades in 4 subjects or if carrying less than 4 subjects student must have passing grades in all subjects, even if they have finished the 8th grade in the middle of the year or have attended school on half-days, they will be eligible to compete in the Wrangler Junior High Finals Rodeo if he/she has not participated for more than 3 years. Each State/Province Association may adopt their state/province academic policy for grade or credit requirements. Any student attending schools, which apply to junior high school credits, is eligible if he/she meets all other requirements. Students attending a home school, private school, religious school or correspondence school are eligible for membership if the school is recognized and approved by the state/province board of education or National Board of Education in the state/province the member is applying for membership. The contestant would need to show proof that the school they are attending is accredited and that they have met the grade requirements. If the school the student is attending is not accredited by the State or National Board of Education the student shall demonstrate composite grade-level academic proficiency on any State Board or National Board of education recognized achievement test or other mechanism as provided for in State or National Board of education rules. Additionally, a student shall be eligible if they achieve a minimum composite score or survey test score within the average or higher than average range as established by the test service utilized on any nationally-normed test. Demonstrated proficiency shall be used to determine eligibility for the current rodeo season. A graduate of the 8th grade is not eligible for membership of NHSRA Wrangler Division after the completion of the Wrangler Junior High Finals Rodeo immediately following their graduating from the 8th grade.
You will need to contact the state or national board of education & request testing to provide proof of contestant's grade level & proficiency. I am sure if you can provide them with this paragraph, they can instruct you on what you would need. I understand this testing is likely available on computer. What you will need to present, at the beginning of the year, at beginning of spring season & before finals will need to be an official document from the state or national board of education stating the contestant's status after completing the required testing.
